Recently, some of my classmates starting to became emotional over assignments, and started to act very abnormally, i.e: started saying very self-de-motivating things, act very arrogant, and stuff.
I was thinking: Should i help to cheer them up or just remain silent?
Knowing very well that remaining silence will be the best option, as experience told me, someone in emotional stage would most probably reject all the positive comment made to him/her. It is better to remain silence in order to prevent from being labelled as a “busy body”.
But then again, you won’t feel right to just sit and watch your own friend suffer, won’t you? It’s only nature when you try to cheer them up, encourage them to stay strong and keep going. Although it hurts really much to see friends starting accusing you for being a busy body, namely all those: “who are you to say that”, “you won’t understand me” etc.
Seriously, it is hard to be a Good Samaritan nowadays.
There’s one instance last year, when one of my son wanted to quit the family (emancipation, LOL), and i tried very hard to keep him, encourage him and cheer him up. But then he send and send all the most heartbroken messages, consisting self-degrading comments, accusing me for minding his business and saying that i am too young to advice him (i’m 19 while he is 38). I really cried out loud the entire night and having a (literally) heartache, making me unable to breath for the entire night and i stayed awake until the next morning. At last, he still emancipated.
The same happened to me few weeks back, where i helped someone else in their performance. I was literally asked to do it, because of their lack of actor that time, and btw it is just a minor role. I was given no time to consider (as the time they ask me is right before the programme started), so i agreed. And then they start wanting me to do this and do that. Fine, i tried my best. Guess what, they say i did a very bad job and i shouldn’t have took on the role. Ok fine, maybe that was a joke, but it HURTS!!!
Now i understand why my mom do not let me became a Good Samaritan by helping all the beggars, lost tourists and abandoned animal.
Not only you’ll be unable to help them, you take shit onto yourself.
5 cookie bites:
It's more important how you feel about your work than how someone else does.
You feel good for helping, you feel capable and nice. THAT'S what matters.
Screw the people who can't appreciate you. Shit's bound to happen!
