Seriously, the first time i heard this song, i've got a mixed feeling. It's good to know that we are having the thought of uniting our nation, but it's also sad to know that it's not going to succeed anytime soon. I mean, come on, look at our nation now. When u're watching any government documented video, u might see all different races are happily living in together, smiling broadly at the camera screen. But what we don't see is, behind the camera screen, nations are deviding ourselves into seperated groups.
Since a child, we are taught (or somehow, brainwashed) into not approaching people of different races. For instance, one of my beloved aunty teaches her newborn son to be disiplined by "don't do this, or "a-pu-nie-nie" will come and kidnap you!" I was confused and ask what in world is a-pu-nie-nie and she said that it's indian. (sorry if u're offence by this statement >< it's merely the truth). Another example, my mom used to teach me to buy stuff in chinese shops only because "it's not safe to buy stuff from other races' shop". Fuck la, what kind of theory is this? I've been buying newspaper and chewing gum from the indian shop upstairs of HELP (beside WN) and i've never been cheated oso =.= what makes her think that other races' shopkeeper are bad? Ok la, on second thought, don't blame her, it's her mother that educate her this way. I believe most of chinese families (that are not open minded) will be unfavour to interact with other races lo... When my mother found out that our new neighbour is an indian family and another side's neghbour-to-be is a malay family, she freaked out and almost wanted to move away.
ya i know, we as different rases sometimes will "bu shuang" (not syok) some other races due to unfair treatment in scholarship, universities offering quota, special rights and others factor, but can't we just put that aside and think of the UNITY first? Isn't UNITY a more important issue than FAIRNESS? Come to think of it, ms sue in malaysia studies always brags about malaysia government isn't fair to all races and that's why we cannot become an united nation, but now i realised, without unity among nations, how are we suppose to have a chance to have a fair negotiation with our acting government?
Well, i guess both of us are correct, without unity there is no fairness, without fairness there is no unity. so how? means we'll never achieve united nation?????
I think that time will be one of the very good catalyst for achieving united nation. Compared to 50 years back then when we just obtain independent, where different races are staying at different areas doing different stuffs, Malaysian now are MUCH MUCH MORE better! At least we're able to talk and interact with each other, we can have a chance to meet each other and we can become customer and newpaper vendor! XD
